I thought that the girl was overly accepting communism. If something she previously accepted was considered a fourold, she decided not to like it. She got in doubt once more obvious things started becoming fourolds. i.e. respecting teachers and competition.
I thought that the girl was really thoughtless and did not stop to think about the olds I also dont understand why they would throw away respect teachers and competittion
The girl reminds me of Katniss' prep team from the capitol. She loved communism but she didn't realize it's weaknesses just like how the prep team loved the Capitol but didn't realize it's weaknesses. They both realized that those things aren't perfect when something like war comes along.
My first impression on Ji-Li is that she has been brainwashed to think that emperor Mao is great and communism is perfect but she doesn't realize that it is the opposite. She is brainwashed because she lives in China and if she looked at emperor Mao and communism from an outsiders view she would realize the facts.
I feel like the girl is an overachiever. She seems to try and do everything right and is very strict with following chairman Mao. The whole society is crazy about four olds and they are way to obsessed with chairman Mao. Chairman Mao wants to create a whole new society, better than everything else. They are going to destroy everything!
My first impressions was that it was kind of weird. They got into an argument over the "fourolds. Basically, the government brainwashed them to think that they should start new, and everything that they say is fourolds", is. They accepted it too much. For example, when the high-schoolers were ripping apart the poor man's pants, they looked proud and strutted away. They were proud that they were breaking someone else's stuff! If someone said something was "fourolds", nobody could do/have it. It didn't matter that her parents and her grandma don't like it, doesn't mean she shouldn't. She should look into the future and realize what's going to happen. I think she's just doing it because everyone else is. "Fourolds" is not as good as they think it is.
Like I said before, the girl did seem a little brainwashed. I mean, I don;t completely blame her; she grew up that way. But wouldn't she have at least be suspicious that everything from the past was bad? Not everything is, some are even priceless. Wouldn't she have some sentiment with all the things in town like the sign, like I would? I just think that she should be a little wary of all these "4 Olds".
I can't blame the girl for thinking the "Four Olds" idea is good. She grew up thinking that was right and good, but the parents and the grandmother seem to see that it will end badly. I believe that the entire "Four Olds" movement is ridiculous, and they could basically say that everything is a "four old", and destroy everything just to start over.
I think it is interesting the way the revolution affects people, because it actually creates loyalty that seems exaggerated. Ji-li seems absolutely crazy about her devotion, but honest, so it seems very weird.
My first impressions of the book is that i think that Ji-Li has a a lot to go through. Something of her families past keeps her from being like everyone else. This is foreshadowing later problems with her families past are going to occur in the book. What i have read so far makes me think about all the differences that her culture has against our culture. The most important thing about this chapter so far is how well it is showing the differences that our cultures have and what an influence some one like the emperor can have. It is also very important how it shows that the people in the story can look up to some one just like we could look up to some one. That describes the fact that these kids do not act different then us but have different things to act apon. (\_/) (='.') (")(")
